The Panthers will attempt to improve upon their 7–10 record from the previous year and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017. Owner David Tepper definitely wasn't content with that record, choosing to go all in on getting Alabama quarterback Bryce Young.
The team acquired the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft from the Chicago Bears in a trade involving wide receiver D. J. Moore. Young is just the third quarterback drafted by the Panthers in the first round, following Kerry Collins in 1995, and Cam Newton in 2011 (also taken first overall).

A big absence on the offensive side of the ball will be Christian McCaffrey, who for over five years was a focal point of the offense. Through the first six games with the Panthers in 2022, McCaffrey had 393 rushing yards, 277 receiving yards, three total touchdowns, and 670 scrimmage yards. However, he was traded to the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 20, 2022 for four draft picks.
The Panthers also drafted exciting rookie wide receiver Jonathan Mingo out of Ole Miss with the 39th overall pick. Mingo, who finished with career-highs in receptions (51), receiving yards (861), and touchdowns (5) during his final year at Ole Miss, is still a work in progress.
Another huge addition to the offense is Miles Sanders, who was apart of the 2022 Eagles that made it all the way to the Super Bowl. He ran for 1,269 yards during the season and signed a four-year, $25.4 million deal in the offseason. He should be able to take some of the load off of Young.
